Homes across the valley; pre-festival markets in Imphal
On the second day of Hiyangei (November), married daughters (ningol) are formally invited (chakouba) back to their parents' home for an elaborate fish-forward feast and gifts. It is a festival of the dining floor rather than the stage - and one of the clearest windows into how the Meitei family works. Fish markets the day before are an event in themselves.
A family festival - not a public spectacle, but the pre-festival fish markets (especially in Imphal) are worth seeing.
