Zeliangrong villages in Tamenglong, Noney and Imphal areas
Gaan-Ngai is the biggest festival of the Zeliangrong (Rongmei, Liangmai, Zeme) communities, held after the harvest is in - usually late December or January. The festival opens with the ceremonial making of new fire, and unfolds through days of drumming, khangchiu (dormitory) dances in full traditional dress, feasts and remembrance of ancestors.
Processions and dances in Rongmei villages and Imphal localities; the opening fire-making rite is the heart of it.
